The stylish Funky Gourmet restaurant has done it again! In its fifth year of operation in the trendy and upcoming area of Kerameikos in Athensand after having received wide acclaim by food critics in Greece as well as many local awards as one of the top restaurants in the country,it is gaining an international reputation in a most spectacular way.
Funky Gourmet’s accomplishments are quite impressive. In 2012 it was awarded its first Michelin star and just one year later, Tripadvisor inits “2013 Traveler’s Choice Awards” ranked it 6th amongst the ten best restaurants in the world!
Just a few days ago, Funky Gourmet gainedan even more important recognition. The very influential Michelin Guide, not only gave the restaurant its second Michelin star, but at itspress conference in Stockholm where the list of European restaurants with new Michelin stars for 2013 was announced, it made special referenceto Funky Gourmet stating that “the food has immeasurable thought, creativity and taste that matches its playfulness”.
It is noteworthy that amongst the hundreds of thousands of restaurants world- wide, only about 350 have two Michelin stars. It is fair to saythat Athens is now becoming a city to be reckoned with on the European culinary map.
With Funky Gourmet’s second Michelin star and Botrini’s first star which were just added to the previously existing stars acquired by the restaurants Spondi (2 stars), Varoulko (1 star), Hytraand Galazia Hytra (1 star each), Athens now counts a total of 8 Michelin stars, more than many other major cities of Europe.Argyro Hiliadaki, Georgianna Hiliadaki and Nikos Roussos are the driving force of Funky Gourmet.
The latter two are the restaurant’s chefs.Including the chef of Spondi, they are the only Greek chefs awarded two Michelin stars. Georgianna Hiliadaki is even more noteworthy beingone of the very few women Chefs in the world with two Michelin stars.
