''OLYMPIC PALACE ', the hotel's previous name, was the work by the architect Jason Rizou in the '60s.
Its design was very much inspired by the aesthetic typology of his era.
Its position at the end of Filellinon Street, just opposite the Russian church, a monument of the 11th century, in close proximity to Bodossaki mansion, is important because public buildings and some listed ones are found in the area, located at the same time within the limits of Plaka area.
Both the building's design and location, led to the decision to preserve its views, i.e. its public part and to fully repair them.
Subtle interventions were performed in the original aesthetic aspect in cases technology and the needs to be covered (temperature, noise, pollution, etc.) have imposed modern solutions e.g. glass panes.
The preservation of views was combined with the tendency of Brazilian brothers Campana to maintain and reuse materials and even parts of objects that exist in order to create a new environment.
Therefore, entire sections inside the building were preserved if they were deemed aesthetically praiseworthy, after having been repaired and highlighted. The presence of Campana brothers in this project was decisive because they were assigned to conceive and process the aesthetic view that characterizes the objects and the spaces.
Campana brothers, being Design creators with a strong personality in their work, closer to applied art on the utility object, brought in to the building’s construction materials and opinions that released a potential.
Approaching trivial objects (e.g. a washstand) with the will and the sense for something creatively new, unique spaces have emerged approaching the ordinary and the trivial in a very inventive way.
The architectural firm that undertook the design and supervision, an arduous but interesting task, was limited to technical and functional project care so that the final result serves the central idea of Campana brothers and the needs of a modern hotel in the Centre of Athens.
