Wedge House
Pylos
The vacation house is located outside the village of Methoni (Pylos, Greece) contradicts the area's typical residence (orthogonal with a four-pitched, tiled roof). The composition emerges as a gesture of a surface's plastic treatment that shapes the roof. The plot is elongated, and the house's entrance is on its narrow side adjacent to the street at an angle, thus forming a trapezoidal shape. The building's design follows the plot's outline.
Two distinct, long, and narrow volumes with a sloping roof contain three en suite bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and an office space on two levels. Two wedge-shaped sections are placed parallelly and connect at their lowest part. The roof's slope and the tallest facade's total opening offer an unobstructed view and plenty of natural light, despite the building's west orientation. The concrete slab that forms the roof is much lighter than the typical tilted one, and it builds a dynamic relationship with the ground and the environment.
