Alti Suites, Santorini

The renovated rooms of Alti Suites retain a prominent location upon the ascent from the port of Santorini. Α quite extensive courtyard with ample views to the volcano is backed by rooms extending on two floors. The stepped terraces, one for each room, were treated as a landscape with a horizontal promenade linking them -planted areas in between ensure privacy. While at the room’s sheltered outdoor area (a balcony with an arched façade, typical for many Santorini houses), this stepped landscape with Jacuzzis becomes the foreground for the caldera view, an elevated plateau to entertain the view. For the room interiors, the prior orthogonal perimeter was retained, organizing the geometry of all interior arrangements. Color becomes here the protagonist in a photogenic but not white interior. The bed rest, the side of the closet and of the vanity desk become horizontal color bands. Color functions as a paper that unfolds within the white room –it is treated as a light or as a film that may fall on various surfaces and objects.
