Aunique cultural meeting point where the heart of Athens is beating daily, combining frugal cycladic lines with authentic cycladicflavors. The modern design of the new Cycladic Café is attributed to the award-winning architectural firm Kois Associated Architects;the Museum's Cycladic Art collection as a source of inspiration.
When entering the Café, light and vegetation are overwhelming, offering the feel of a garden within the city. The main features are frugality, abstraction, measure and harmony.
The evocative airy canopy- sculpture by Stelios Kois is a hallmark of the new Cycladic Café.The palette of colors stems from natural materials and tons of the cycladic landscape. The raw materials were used to create the textures and the natural color. Stone, wood, metal, glass, in their rudimentary form reflect the materialaspect of the cycladic landscape.
The white canopy, with its refractive capacity, comes to complement, through light spreading acrossthe space, the abstract image that we had in our minds for the cycladic atmosphere. Inside the Café one feels embraced by nature. A varietyof tropical and shade-tolerant, low, medium and tall plants, such as ophiopogons, ferns, asparaguses, rapis, kentia, Ivies, etc. are used tocreate a thick dark green background beneath the umbrella of enormous pre-existing ficuses.
The Green surrounding space softens itslimits and gives the feeling of a tender refuge at the heart of the city. Begnis Catering is taking care of the menu: Flavors and aromas of cycladicland with pure raw materials and fresh ingredients, for breakfast, brunch, coffee or lunch.
The Cycladic Café is currently open on the Museum's opening hours and days.
