The Apollonion housing complex in Porto Rafti (Attica, Greece) provides an exceptional residential concept for Greek standards.
The design of the complex provides a characteristic example of Konstantinos Doxiadis’ ideas over urban planning and development. The main body of the complex follows the landscape using a system of parallel stone walls, which could potentially be applied in any adjoining piece of land.
The generous design of its public spaces encourage the interaction between the residents, while the use of narrow roads and the exclusion of vehicles from the residential areas aims in bringing harmony and balance between man and nature.
The inability of vehicles to approach the residence, however, was an issue for the reconstruction works, requiring most of the work to be done by hand, which, nevertheless, provided a more natural result.
