House in Filothei
Dynamic Linearity
The house in a northern suburb of Athens appears as a building, with carefully negotiated interior limits. The white, cubist composition reaches the street frontage and is enlivened with the interplay of light and dark surfaces, accentuating different layers of depth, and spatial transitions. The house has a generous hall with a light-filled stairwell in the middle, and an exit to the garden: The latter crosses over a glass floor looking into the indoor swimming pool located at the basement, bringing subtle, blue light to the facade at nighttime.
On the right side of the hall, the prominent home office is individually accessible by guests from the entrance gateway. Protracting volumes demarcate entrance canopies or sheltered outdoor sitting areas, breaking the dynamic linearity of the whole. The line between indoors and outdoors is blurred with seamless transitions and oversize, linear openings enjoying the garden view.
