The stable house
Summerhouse in Santorini
The project is situated at Episkopi Gonia, on Santorini island. It is a 95 sq.m six cross vault building, originally used as a stable and later as a storage, built at the end of the 19nth century.
Transforming this old building into a modern four people summerhouse has been a demanding challenge regarding different aspects such as forms, structure, traditional elements, and construction. Except from the master bedroom and the ensuite bathrooms, the rest of the space is open including the sitting area, the dining space, the kitchen as well as a second sleeping area, all developed around the sculptural volume of the central column where the four cross vaults conjure.
Outdoor living is shared between a front yard where a 40 sq.m swimming pool with its surrounding sitting and dining area are created and a terrace lounge where the visitor is lead via an open staircase that curls up around the west wall of the building.
