Heliotropium Residence in Patras
The project's major architectural principle was the subdivision of the residence into two separate units and joined by projections and recessed areas to achieve the maximum use of the available daylight. The architectural approach of this project was inspired by the heliotropium's distinctive characteristic, which is its flower's orientation toward the sun.
During his tour of the interior of the building, the resident, as a heliotrope, indirectly interacts with the light, absorbing the necessary energy in accordance with his daily demands in each area. The private areas were oriented towards the east, while the design axes of the public spaces are in harmony with the orientation of the plot.
The triangle-shaped architectural projections, which are composed of cubic volumes, achieve the facades' visual integration. These structures enhance the overall minimalism of the building while also supporting functional purposes.
